The Great Outdoors

The Gardens

'The best kept classroom and the richest cupboard, are roofed only by the sky' (Margaret McMillian, 1925)

  • garden sign
  • baby picking strawberries
  • helping in the vegetable patch
  • learning to ride a bike
  • investigating caterpillars
  • sand kitchen
  • babies playing on seesaw

We all had a playroom growing up, it's called outside!

Great Wood Farm Early Years Centre has fantastic outdoor facilities. The large gardens provide lots of opportunities for the children to explore and develop all seven areas of learning in the EYFS. The gardens are well equipped with a large sand pit, playhouses, tipi, a football area, sensory plants, and lots of open ended resources. We have an environmental area with a vegetable patch, fire pit and a greenhouse made from old plastic bottles. There is also a free flow area of the garden with a focus on maths and literacy.

The idyllic country setting provides lots of opportunities for your child’s development throughout the changing seasons.
