The Great Outdoors

The Gardens

'The best kept classroom and the richest cupboard, are roofed only by the sky' (Margaret McMillian, 1925)

  • pre-school child going through tunnel in main garden
  • children playing in sand pit
  • pre-school chidlren investigating water moving
  • pre-school children on go-kart
  • babies in sand pit
  • babies on blanket in garden

We all had a playroom growing up, it's called outside!

Great Wood Farm Early Years Centre has fantastic outdoor facilities. The large gardens provide lots of opportunities for the children to explore and develop all seven areas of learning in the EYFS. We have an outdoor classroom and the gardens are well equipped with a large sand pit, trampolines, cottages, cycle and go cart tracks, a football area, sensory garden, vegetable patch and orchard, outdoor musical instruments, and lots of open ended resources. We recently completed building a greenhouse from old plastic bottles and this summer have successfully grown some vegetables!

The idyllic country setting provides lots of opportunities for your child’s development throughout the changing seasons.
